Dr. S. Babu Raj, Professor in Paediatrics, was born on 01.06.1964 in Kaliakkavilai, a beautiful suburban area bordering Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Being the younger son of a devoted Protestant Christian parents Mr.S.Stephenson and Mrs.T.Glory Anna Bai he did his Higher Secondary education in St.Joseph Higher Secondary School, Trituapuram.

After coming out meritoriously from the school he joined MBBS in the Government Medical College, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, in1982. He has determined to dedicate his service to the field of Medical Mission which needed lot of perseverance and self-sacrifice hence he joined as a Junior Doctor in the CSI Mission Hospital, Neyyoor under the Kanyakumari Medical Mission and then he joined in the CSI Hospital, Karakonam under the South Kerala Medical Mission during 1990.

He did his Post Graduation in Paediatrics in the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, a prestigious institution during 1992-1995. After coming out in flying colours, he associated himself once again with the Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Hospital, Karakonam as a Paediatrician to treat the poor and under privileged children of this remote and neglected area of South Kerala. During 2001 by the Grace of the Lord Almighty this hospital became a teaching institution - a Medical College, Dr.S.M.C.S.I Medical College. Since then he became a teaching faculty in Paediatrics and devoted himself in assisting the College Administration in the capacity of the Medical Superintendent of this great institution.

He has being appointed as External Examiner for both UG and PG for Kerala University of Health Sciences and other Medical Universities. During 2004 he has attended the Teacher Training Programme at JIPMER, Pondicherry & Basic Course in Medical Education Technology, Revised Basic Course in Medical Education Technology, ATCOM and Fellowship in Medical Education(FIME) at Regional Centre for Medical Education Technology at Medical Council of India Nodal Centre at Government Medical College, Kottayam in the subsequent years. He has also successfully completed his Diploma in Hospital Management and MBA in Hospital Management amidst his busy schedule. He has 10 research publications to his credit published in the indexed journals in his area of speciality.
